Items in the Configure Driver dialog, Advanced

The
Advanced
tab in the
Configure Driver
dialog box contains the following settings:
Setting
Description
Interface
Used to access settings to configure how the driver is exposed on the network.
Listen on Ethernet/IP encapsulation ports
Enables
Listen on Ethernet/IP encapsulation ports
if the network includes devices that transmit data using unsolicited messages. When this setting is enabled, the UDP port will not be available for use by other applications.
Tip:
This command is utilized by
FactoryTalk Linx
when operating as a data server and is not utilized by the
FactoryTalk Linx
Network Browser
or any of the design software.
Use “Windows Default” when selected interface fails
Enables
FactoryTalk Linx
to automatically select an alternative network interface card (NIC) if the current one becomes unavailable.
  • When enabled,
    FactoryTalk Linx
ensures communication with devices by automatically switching to another functioning NIC in the system if the current one becomes unavailable.
  • When disabled,
    FactoryTalk Linx
will strictly adhere to the NIC selected in the configuration. If the chosen NIC becomes unavailable, communication with devices will be disrupted until the NIC is restored or manually switched to an alternative interface.
Tip:
If the driver switches to a different NIC, the intended devices may not be reachable.
FactoryTalk Linx
could improperly communicate to the wrong device if a device on the alternate network that uses the same address as a device on the initial network. When you make a VPN connection through FactoryTalk Remote Access, disable this option to avoid sending data to unintended network segments.
Tuning
Used to access settings to configure the advanced network speed of browsing settings or view the default settings.
  • Device Discovery Poll Rate (msec)
Defines how often (in milliseconds) the
FactoryTalk Linx
Network Browser
requests data from a device. For example, a poll rate of 1000 ms results in data being requested every second.
Tip:
When a driver makes a discovery request to a device, it waits for the amount of time specified by the
Device Discovery Poll Rate
before making a request to a new device. Setting this rate to a higher value slows down the rate that devices appear in the browser tree and reduces the number of messages sent on the network.
Tip:
This command is inactive when the Ethernet driver utilizes broadcast discovery.
  • Offline device discovery poll rate
Defines how often (in milliseconds) the
FactoryTalk Linx
Network Browser
waits to communicate to a device that was not detected in a previous poll. For example, a poll rate of 10,000 results in a 10-second delay before additional requests are sent to a device that was offline.
Tip:
Setting this rate to a higher value slows down the rate that a newly attached device appears in the browser tree and reduces the number of messages sent on the network.
Tip:
This command is inactive when the Ethernet driver utilizes broadcast discovery.
  • Poll Interval between discovery cycles (msec)
The number of milliseconds that occur between each time the
FactoryTalk Linx
Network Browser
queries the network.
Tip:
After a driver polls the network branch, it waits for the amount of time specified by the Poll Interval between discovery cycles before starting another discovery cycle. Setting the Poll interval between discovery cycles to a higher value reduces the number of network messages sent.
  • Poll timeout (msec)
Specifies the amount of time (in milliseconds) to wait for a device to respond to a request.
  • Maximum concurrent packets to this network
Used to configure the maximum number of requests that can be waiting for a response on this network at any given time as part of the browsing process.
  • Auto remove offline devices
Enables this setting to automatically remove the offline devices after browsing devices.
