Register device description files using the Device Description File Installation Tool

You can register the device description files of hardware devices, including EDS and IODD files, by launching the
Device Description File Installation Tool
.
Before you begin:
  • To register the device description file of a hardware device, you must have a valid and complete device description file of the hardware device. To search and download the device description file of a specific hardware device, visit
    Rockwell Automation
     Network Resources.
  • If an icon file (*.ico) exists for the hardware device, save it with the same name as the device description file in the same directory. You can save one or more device description files (and the related icon files) in one directory.
To register device description files using the Device Description File Installation Tool
  1. From the Windows
    Start
     menu, select
    All Programs >
    Rockwell Automation
     > RSLinx > Tools > Device Description File Installation Tool
    .
  2. In the
    Device Description File Installation Tool
     dialog box, click
    Add
    . The
    Device Description File Installation Tool
     dialog box opens.
  3. In the
    Registration
     dialog box:
    • Select
      Register a single device description file
       to register one device description file at a time, or
    • Select
      Register a directory of device description files
      to register two or more device description files at a time.
  4. In the
    Registration
     dialog box, click
    Browse
     to select the device description file (if you are registering a single file), or the directory of the device description files (if you are registering two or more device description files), and click
    Next
    .
  5. In the
    Device Description File Installation Test Results
     dialog box, review the hardware device list and click
    Next
    .
  6. In the
    Change Graphic Image
     dialog box, review the icons of the hardware devices and click
    Next
    .
    小贴士:
    Device Description File Installation Tool assigns a default icon to each hardware device. You can specify a different icon for the hardware devices by selecting the hardware device and clicking the
    Change icon
     button.
  7. In the
    Final Task summary
     dialog box, review the hardware device list and click
    Next
    .
  8. When the registration is completed, click
    Finish
    to return to the
    Device Description File Installation Tool
    dialog box.
  9. Click
    Exit
    .
