Discovery methods

Part of adding a driver using the
FactoryTalk Linx
Network Browser
is selecting a discovery mode for how the computer will discover the driver included in the network broadcast message.
The discovery modes are used in different situations:
  • Local Broadcast (Ethernet)
    - a local broadcast discovery sends a UDP broadcast message to all devices on the same subnet that is connected to the computer. Each device then responds with their individual identity information. Avoid using this driver configuration if you have a subnet with a high number of devices or if the network is heavily loaded. When adding new drivers, the
    FactoryTalk Linx
    Network Browser
    defaults to Local Broadcast configuration.
  • Remote Broadcast
    - enables the
    FactoryTalk Linx
    Network Browser
to target the UDP broadcast to a different subnet on the network.
    小贴士:
In some cases, the default Ethernet Switch configuration will block or prevent a remote UDP broadcast message from being propagated to a subnet, and no devices will be detected. If this occurs, use the
    Device List/Range
    discovery method.
  • Device List/Range
    - enables the
    FactoryTalk Linx
    Network Browser
to target a device that is configured to block remote broadcast messages. The list can contain a maximum of 255 IP addresses specified individually or as a range. If using an IP address range, each IP address in the range should be assigned to a device. Unattached IP addresses can delay broadcast messages and can create additional network messages.
