Import/Paste Configuration Dialog - Configure Data Type References Overview

Use this dialog box to view and configure User-defined Data Type references for the import or for pasting the configuration into project using the Paste Special > With Configuration command.
Data Type references are represented in the Import Content by the Data Types item found under the References folder. When the Data Types item is selected, the Details pane displays the User-defined Data Type references in the import content. The list includes any User-defined Data Types or string types directly referenced by the imported component as well as User-defined Data Types or string types indirectly referenced by other components being imported.
Parameters
Header Row
The leftmost part of the grid, provides an indication of the condition of the component that was imported, as follows:
Import_Configuration_dialog_warning_flag_without_astericks
Indicates why a component needs attention. Hover the cursor over the red flag icon and a tool tip displays and indicates the reason for the message.
general_differences_icon (2)
A general differences icon appears on a folder if there is an item in that folder that has differences.
Import_Configuration_dialog_warning_flag
Indicates that the content of the row has changed.
fixed_product_safety_warning
Indicates a safety warning.
Import Name
Displays the name of the component as read from the import file.
Operation
Identifies what is done with this component upon import.
The field is pre-populated; however, you can choose from a pull-down list of valid choices.
IMPORTANT:
If the imported data type has the same name as an existing data type and is not imported (existing data type is used), then tag data for any tags imported of this data type are converted and values are possibly lost.
For more information, see
Import Configuration Operations
.
Final Name
The final name is the name as it appears in the project after the import. Changing the Final Name changes the name in all places where this component is referenced in the import content (throughout the logic and in any alias components).
Specifies the name of the User-defined Data Type in the project after a successful import. You may modify the final name during configuration.
If you change the final name, then you change the reference in the imported project to be that new name. This is true even if you select Discard or Use Existing as the Operation.
If you modify the name and this User-defined Data Type is created or overwrites the existing one, it causes the Last Edit Date of this User-defined Data Type to update during import.
When you click in the Final Name cell, a pull-down menu containing a list of all the User-defined Data Types and user-defined strings contained in the project displays.
TIP:
  • Tip: If you press the Esc key before you apply your edits, the previous value is restored.
  • If you press the Esc key after you apply your edits, the dialog box closes, the import is canceled, and you lose your work.
IMPORTANT:
You may either create or avoid a collision by modifying the final name, (based on if you modify the final name to match that of an existing final name in the project). Modifying the final name so that it is different from the import name causes logic references to update.
Description
Displays the description of the data type.
If the value in the Operation field is Overwrite or Create, you can change the description.

Pay particular attention to warnings that appear in the area below the grid.
